Description
RHEOMIX 616 liquid has been specifically formulated to produce early strengths and lower water absorption values for semi dry concrete mixes. RHEOMIX 616 reduces permeability and improves cohesion.
Primary uses
RHEOMIX 616's main area of application is in the precast concrete industry, specifically:
- Interlocking tiles
- Hollow blocks
- Paving slabs
- Brick production
Advantages
- RHEOMIX 616's plasticising action produces workable mixes at lower water/ cement ratios.
- Greatly reduces the penetration of water and deleterious substances thereby increasing durability.
- Improves weathering properties.
- Reduces efflorescence.
- Aids pigment distribution
Packaging
RHEOMIX 616 is available in bulk and 210Itr drums.
Compatibility
RHEOMIX 616 is compatible with all types of Portland cement. For use with special cements consult BASF's Technical Services Dept.
Do not premix RHEOMIX 616 with other admixtures unless recommended by BASF's Technical Services Dept.
Action
RHEOMIX 616 contains hydrophobic and plasticising agents which aid the even dispersion of the cement and pigments throughout the mix.
RHEOMIX 616 acts by disrupting the capillary pore continuity and thus ensures increased water tightness and resistance to frost.

Method of use
RHEOMIX 616 is ready for use and is added to the mixing water at the selected dosage rate.
Guide to application
The optimum dosage rate for RHEOMIX 616 is best assessed after preliminary site trials have been carried out. Where possible the actual aggregates and mixers should be used. As a guide an addition rate of 600ml of RHEOMIX 616 per 100kg of cement is recommended. Consult BASF's Technical Services Dept. for advice and assistance during trials.
Dosage
600ml to 1,000ml per 100kg of Portland cement.
Effects of over dosage
Overdosing of RHEOMIX 616 will result in an increase in workability and cohesion. The cured properties will generally be unaffected.
Storage
Shelf life is up to 2 years when stored in unopened original packing, protected from extremes of heat and cold and stored under shade.
Safety precautions
Avoid contact with eyes and prolonged contact with skin. During application always wear gloves and appropriate clothing to minimise contact. In case of contact with eyes, immediately flush with plenty of water for at least 15 minutes. Should skin contact occur, wash immediately with soap and water. Seek the advice of a physician should symptoms persist.
