As part of the Ministry of Transports upgrading programme, many highways constructed more than 20 years ago are being resurfaced and upgraded. This also involves removing and replacing the old mechanical expansion joints on bridge structures.
Working with the Ministry of Transport, approval was granted to install the WABO ASPHALT PLUG JOINTS on 8 bridges each with 4 joints of 18 metre carriageway width.
Saudi BASF assisted the main contractor, Al Swailem, with specialized heating equipment and on site technical assistance, to complete the project ahead of schedule.
WABO ASPHALT PLUG comprises a thermosetting resin binder with single size granite aggregate which when combined form a flexible plug capable of accepting movements up to + or – 17.5mm depending on the appropriate size for the movement. The system is easily installed in both new or replacement joints and features a non slip granite chipping finish.
